Having reviewed tons of book type slots in the last couple years, it’s refreshing to see a hidden, old gem like Ninja Fruits actually outperform many of them. The lighthearted approach is very welcome after wading through so many clones that take themselves oh so seriously. Visually, this game is also a breath of fresh country-side air, and the fruit-slicing animations are a joy to behold every time you land a winner.

The pace of the game is excellent, especially with the turbo switched on, and the ninja star target practice breaks up the base game grind on a regular basis. In our view, this game deserves more attention from the book of fans out there. It’s more fun than Book of Dead in many ways, although the max bet is a bit lower here. Still, the math model is very similar, and Ninja Fruits is a great alternative for players tired of the dusty old tombs in ancient egypt.

Ninja Fruits Features

The animated ninja star (shuriken) hitting a wooden target is the bonus symbol in this game, and you need to land it on the 3 middle reels to trigger the Hit The Fruits bonus game. You will now get to take on the role as a target practicing ninja, and throw ninja stars at a line-up of different fruits (the same fruit you’ll find as symbols on the reels).

An old sensei is watching you demonstrate your skills together with a tall geisha on the left-hand side. She will shyly conceal her laughter when you fail, and each fruit you hit with a shuriken turns into a random cash prize up to 150x your stake. The old ninja master knocks down the remaining fruit when you miss, and the feature ends.

The game’s free spins bonus round is triggered when you land the Geisha symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5 on the same spin. You will first get a 5x win, and then you’ll see the Geisha spin her umbrella like a bonus wheel filled with all the regular ninja and fruit symbols.

One of the regular symbols will thus be selected as an “extra scatter”, and the Geisha will then flip open her folding fan to reveal how many free spins you get.

Calling it an “extra scatter”, as the game does, is really a bit misleading. In reality, the chosen symbol acts like it does in most “book of” slots. All instances of the chosen symbol will expand to cover the whole reel, and the reason the word “scatter” is used is probably because you don’t need adjacent stacked reels to win.

You can choose to gamble all wins in Ninja Fruit slot, and this is a standard double or nothing kind of feature. You can gamble each win up to 5 times, and it’s all about guessing the correct color or suit of a card. Guessing the correct color pays 2x, while guessing the correct suit pays 4x.

The 200 Spins Ninja Fruits Experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our 200 spins test session on this somewhat hidden gem of a slot. We triggered the Hit The Fruits bonus game several times, and you can check out all the highlights in the brief video below. The bonus round starts around 1:23, and we managed to fill the screen with our chosen symbol for a big win. All in all, a very fun session on a game that deserves more attention.

Review Summary

Ninja Fruits is an early Book of Ra offshoot (released years before Book of Dead came along and stole everyone’s thunder), but it stands firmly on it’s own two feet.

Ninja Fruits Slot Gameplay 2456

It might be a bit of a forgotten gem, but it’s actually a better game than many more modern book slots out there. Throwing that ninja star in the bonus game took us right back to childhood memories, and it’s a very fun feature to look forward to.

Introducing us to the Geisha and the Ninja Sensei as more than just symbols on the reels adds personality to the gameplay, and target practice on the fruit from the paytable is a genius way of combining two seemingly incongruent themes. The 5,000x potential is the same as in most book slots, and so is the high volatility. The bonus round is also the same, but we like the pace of this game better, and it really sticks out from the “heavy” seriousness you get from so many games in the book series.

Pros

  • Fun fruit-cutting ninja theme
  • Ninja star target practice bonus game
  • Bonus round with chosen expanding symbol
  • High volatility and 5,000x max win potential

Cons

  • Beware of customizable RTP ranges
