Gold Digger Review
Gold Digger is in many ways a perfect title for this game, at least if you consider the double meaning. Yes, visually this game tells the story of a charming old toothless prospector trying his luck for the nth time in the gold mine, but the math model is far more brutal than you’d expect from a medium volatile game. Therefore, you might equate this sneaky game to a femme fatale looking to reel you in, just for the sake of the money in your pocket.
iSoftBet has created a visually pleasing game for sure, but the actual gameplay requires a patient mind and a somewhat sizable bankroll. Gold Digger plays out on 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 ways to win, and you can place bets between 20p and £20 per spin across all platforms and handheld devices (like Android, iPhone and iPad). The mine feels like it can collapse at any time, but good ole’ golden tooth Gus doesn’t seem too worried.
The crafty old chap is what you could call a 3-trick pony, and his machinations will benefit you at random times during the base game play. Two of them include explosions, as you might imagine, and he can turn symbols into wilds and explode them into higher value symbols. He’s even an alchemist of sorts, as his pickaxe can transform regular symbols into golden nuggets. Not bad at all, but we soon learned that his skills sound a lot more helpful than they actually are. The Gold Link Respins round is the highlight of the game, and you can win up to 8,230x your stake if you’re lucky here.

What are the bonus features?
There are plenty of features to cover in this game, and 3 of them can be triggered at any time randomly when you spin the reels in the base game. This is called the Random Gold Digger features, and you’ll soon see that the veteran prospector, Gus, has some neat tricks up his sleeve. There’s more to this old man than meets the eye, and here are the tools he’ll produce to help you in your quest for riches:
- Random Wilds - Gus throws a dynamite onto the reels, and the explosion turns 3 to 5 symbols into wild symbols.
- Symbol Upgrade - Gus pushes the TNT detonator down and the explosion upgrades a random amount of symbols to a higher value.
- Gold Nuggets - Gus’ pickaxe turns a certain amount of regular symbols into gold nuggets, which in turn can help you trigger the main bonus feature called the Gold Link Respins round.
There is also a wild symbol with an explosion in the background, and this can step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos. This symbol cannot step in for gold nuggets or gems however, but it can still be quite useful at times.
Free spins in Gold DiggerAccording to the description in the game’s paytable, this is a respins feature and not a free spins bonus round.
However, it’s the closest you’ll get to a free spins feature here, so we’ll file it under that department anyway. You need to land at least 5 gold nuggets anywhere on the reels at the same time to trigger the Gold Link Respins/Free spins feature, and this always gives you 3 free respins no matter how many gold nuggets you land initially.Any new gold nugget that lands during the bonus round will also become sticky, and each time a gold nugget lands the number of spins reset to 3 again. Each gold nugget comes with a cash prize attached, and when the feature ends all the cash values are summed up to give you your total win. Above the reels are 4 different bonus-meters with 3 empty slots in each meter. Filling each meter gives you a unique benefit, and you do this by collecting gemstone symbols unique for each feature. It works as follows:
Gold Digger Slot Start Info- Reels Booster (3 blue gems) - gives you extra winning chances by unlocking 1 of 3 extra rows. You can unlock all 3 extra rows by collecting a total of 9 blue gemstones.
- Values Booster (3 green gems) - gives all sticky gold nuggets in view a boost in value.
- Spins+ Booster (3 red gems) - gives you 1 extra respin/free spin, so that the tally resets to 4 instead of 3 when you land the next gold nugget, and so forth.
- Multiplier Booster (3 purple gems) - increases the multiplier meter up to a maximum of 10x.
How to play
The game interface on Gold Digger is quite minimalistic, and does not take up very much space on the screen compared to many other games. We’ll walk you through everything you need to know to get started with playing this game here.
If you already have a lot of experience with online slots, you might wanna skip this part of the review. However, newbies and novices should probably read on.You can start by clicking the “i” icon down in the left-hand side corner, as this takes you into the game’s paytable. Here you can read all about the different symbols, features and, of course, check out the symbol values. The paytable is dynamic, so the respective symbol combination values will change according to your chosen bet level. You can also switch between displaying valuta and coin value by clicking the “bet” down in the right-hand side corner (or the “balance” on the opposite side).
There are no game settings here as far as we can see, but you can toggle on/off the sound via the speaker icon next to the “i” icon. We also cannot find any fast play option, but you can click the spin button again after the spin has started to increase the pace.
This is a bit annoying, as you cannot really do this if you go for the autoplay feature.Speaking of, you can set up between 5 and 1,000 autospins here, but the max loss/win limit is a bit low. You can win or lose a maximum of ÂŁ200 before the feature stops, and most developers provide a lot more flexibility than that. Also the bet range is a bit amputated, as you can only place bets between 20p and ÂŁ20 per spin here. iSoftBet has a few things to learn, it seems, when it comes to giving players flexibility and options via their somewhat lacking interface.

The 200 Spins Gold Digger Experience
We get that striking gold is not easy, but we were not at all prepared for the brutal math model hiding behind what iSoftBet has called a “medium volatile” game. If this is medium volatility, we would hardly like to play the high volatility version, cause almost our entire 200 spins session was filled with nothing but dead spins and measly wins.
We set the bet level to £1 per spin as usual, and loaded up the autoplay feature with 200 spins. The old prospector, Gus, looked harmless enough with his one blinking golden tooth, but the old chap sure wasn’t as helpful as the impression we got from the paytable. Our first 100 spins turned out completely uneventful, and perhaps we had one or two 10x wins, but it’s hard to remember as we almost fell asleep.
Then, finally, after more than 100 spins, good ole’ Gus decided to lob a few dynamites into the mix. We got 3 wilds, and won a staggering 7.5x our stake. Hiii Haa. It took a good long while more before golden-tooth Gus leaned a bit too hard on his TNT detonator (perhaps he fell asleep too?) and exploded 5-6 symbols into higher value symbols. This gave us an “insane” 5x win.
Gold Digger Slot Bonus GameAfter 200 spins, and plenty of 4 gold nuggets teasers, we had little hope of ever seeing the bonus round. Still, we decided to push on some more, just out of morbid curiosity and spite. It took us around 50 more spins to trigger the Gold Link Respins feature, and we unlocked 1 extra row and got 1 extra spin after a while. Still, the gold nuggets we landed were of lower value (fool’s gold perhaps?), so we ended up with an unexciting 62x total win and solid red numbers in our gold digger budget.
Review Summary
Slot games are all about psychology. It’s not really what the math model behind the scene says or does, as much as it is how the game feels. Having to land 5 gold nuggets to trigger the bonus round simply feels a lot harder than the regular 3 bonus symbols that are required for most games. It’s probably not a good idea to go against the conditioning players have from hundreds of other games in this department, and especially not when actually triggering the bonus round is almost as hard as striking gold in your own backyard.
Visually, the game is quite charming, although ole’ golden-tooth Gus could have been far more helpful than he actually is. Calling this a medium variance slot is almost a joke, as you can easily play 200 rounds with mostly dead spins and insignificant wins (something we proved above). If you have the patience, wins up to 8,230x your stake is possible here, but there are far better gold mines to try your luck in than this.
Pros
- 3 randomly triggered bonus features
- Respins/free spins feature with 4 extras
- Medium volatility (supposedly) and 8,230x max win potential
Cons
- A lot more volatile than it pretends to be

Luckily, there are plenty of games out there with a theme similar to Gold Digger slot, and we shall present you with some great options here. The theme of digging for gold is very analogous to actually playing casino games, as you need to grind and grind until you suddenly hit pay dirt. You could say it’s the perfect slot theme in that respect, and here are some games you can read more about and play for free via the link.
Bonanza Megaways - is the game that started the whole Megaways craze in the first place, and it comes with up to 117,649 ways to win. The max win is perhaps not as big as some later games with this engine, but 10,000x your stake is still respectable to say the least. The mining cart above the regular reels hauls out 4 new gemstone symbols on each spin, and you’ll benefit from an exciting bonus round with an uncapped progressive win multiplier.
TNT Tumble - is a very well-made grid slot from Relax Gaming, and the bonus round takes you deep into the mineshaft where drilling wilds wreak havoc on the reels. In fact, you can choose from 3 different free spins features here, and they all come with unique extras and different volatilities. Winning more than 2,000x your stake is possible on this medium to high volatile mining game, which is really a must try for the drilling wilds alone.
Diamond Mine Extra Gold Megaways - is yet another megaways engine slot with a gold mining theme from Blueprint. You can win up to 30 free spins via the wheel of fortune here, and the unlimited win multiplier will increase by +1 for each win or reaction win. There is also a mystery symbol that can benefit you here, and wins up to 10,000x your stake is possible on this highly volatile game.
