Wins of Winter Review
It’s a bit of a dilemma whether or not to play frozen winter-themed slots when it’s freezing outside, as exotic beach releases may be more tempting. Anyway, Fantasma has created a decent-looking fantasy winter game with Wins of Winter, and it follows closely in the footsteps of the more spooky predecessor, Magikspell.
When we say closely, we are referring to the actual gameplay and not the math model, as the latter has been watered down significantly on all fronts. You get frames that turn infectiously wild on a regular basis, and the hold & win game has been replaced by prize pick game. The progressive bonus multiplier system is similar, albeit with a lower x100 max multiplier, and the potential has been reduced to 5,000x your stake.

The premium symbols pay between 1.25 and 3.5 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete wins. At least this is their core function, and wilds are only present when the Winter Wild feature triggers. Wilds pay the same as the top-tier wizard symbol should you land a pure wild line win.

Special Snow symbols leave a frozen frame behind when they land, and any given snow symbol can become golden at random times. This leaves a golden frame behind, and a golden position turns into a wild symbol on the spin that follows.
What’s more, all framed positions that are connected to a position that is adjacent to the golden position also turn wild. All frozen frames used in the wild transformation feature are removed. Each snow symbol that lands also adds +1 point to the Progression Meter seen above the grid, and you need 50 collected points to trigger the Mirror feature. It triggers again when 100 points have been collected, and at 150 collected points the bonus game multiplier is upgraded.
The multiplier upgrade goes from x1 to x2, x3, x,5, x7, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x30, x40, x50, x60, x80, and x100, and the meter resets for each multiplier upgrade. No more points are collected when you reach x100, and the multiplier resets to x1 after the next bonus game.
The above-mentioned Mirror Feature replicates all frozen frames on reels 1 and 2, and clones them to reels 3 and 4. The opposite also happens, so you get a perfect symmetry of frozen frames across the grid.
If a Chest lands the Chest feature plays out before the Mirror feature.Chests can appear on the rightmost reel only, and the Chest opens up to add 3 to 6 points to the Progression Meter. Alternatively, it will add 2 to 4 frozen frames to random positions across the grid.
You need 3 bonus symbols in view to trigger the Bonus Game, and bonus symbols appear on the 3 middle reels only. You get 9 to 18 picks, and you will pick to reveal prizes between 0.5x and 20x your stake. In the end, all cash prizes are added together, and the multiplier you have achieved will then boost the total win.

Review Summary
You have to really enjoy the frozen landscape to justify picking this follow-up release over the original. Fantasma has admittedly conjured up a somewhat magical winter landscape atmosphere, but the math model is far better in the first game. Not that it’s all that bad in Wins of Winter to be fair, but since both are highly volatile installments we know which one we prefer at least.
Making this a less volatile alternative would’ve made more sense, as a 5,000x potential looks bleak compared to 20,000x.
The multiplier can go to 250x in the first game, and you get a pick bonus instead of a hold & win round in this sequel. It will take a good while to get to even the 100x multiplier though, but at least your loyalty progressively increases it along the way. We preferred the theme in the original also, but winter/Xmas enthusiasts might wanna give this one a chance.Pros
- Cyclic frames-to-wild transformation
- Progression Multiplier Meter up to x100
- Mirror feature at 50 and 100 points
- Random Chest feature in base game
- Pick Bonus w/ achieved multiplier boost
- Win up to 5,000x your stake
Cons
- Similar to Magikspell, but weaker math model
If you appreciate Wins of Winter Slot you should also try:
Magikspell - is the original fantasy release from Fantasma Games, and it plays out in a creepy graveyard. Magik Ring frames turn wild on a regular basis, and the bonus round multiplier can increase to x250. It’s a hold and win style feature in this game, and you can win up to 20,000x your stake.
Frozen Gems - is a volatile installment in Play’n Go’s gem series, and you can unlock a symbol split mechanic from the frozen top reel in addition to wild reels and increased win ways. The progressive multiplier is active in all stages, and it never resets in the bonus round.
The max win is 10,000x your stake.Out of the Ice - is a fantasy installment from Print Studios, and it comes with a 3-3-4-4-5 grid. You’ll benefit from a sticky winning symbols respins feature that also expands the grid, and 2 random multipliers up to x40 can help you out as well. The bonus round comes about from 3 consecutive win respins, and you can pocket up to 6,000x your stake.
