Power of Thor Megaways Review
Pragmatic Play have some solid Megaways titles under their belt already, but Power of Thor Megaways is hardly the most original of them. They have pretty much gone back to basic with this release, although the double wild reel feature can be seen as somewhat original. The cartoon-style visuals are solid enough, but experienced players might be shocked by the unusually low potential.
Pragmatic was always known for their highly exaggerated max win “click bait”, but they have since changed their tune. Sometimes the pendulum needs to swing a bit too much in the opposite direction, before the golden middle way of equilibrium is found. A Megaways title with a 5,000x potential is not unheard of, something Pragmatic’s own Madame Destiny Megaways has made sure of. However, anything below 10,000x seems unbalanced when everything else is so blown out of proportions.

The Megaways engine combines with the Tumbe Win feature to make each spin unique and unpredictable. You can play with up to 117,649 win ways, and winning symbols are removed from the reels.
New symbols will then drop down to fill the gaps, and this process goes on as long as you keep landing new winning combos.Similar Slots:
To help you out in that regard, you have the wild symbol that steps in for all regular pay symbols. The wild can only appear on the top horizontal reel however, same as the special Hammer symbol. The Hammer occupies 2 reel positions whenever it appears in full view, and it transforms the reels below into fully stacked wild reels.
You need a minimum of 4 scatters spelling the word ‘THOR’ to trigger the bonus round. This awards 10 free spins, but you can gamble for up to 22 spins on a bonus wheel. Land on the green segment to win more spins, but if you don’t, the bonus round is over before it even begins.
You can land up to 9 scatters, combined with up to five +4 symbols, and this awards the maximum of 30 free spins.Power of Thor Megaways GambleThe bonus round plays out similarly to the base game, with one big difference. You will now benefit from a progressive win multiplier that starts at 1x. The multiplier increases by +1 for each cascading win, and it does not reset between spins. It will thus grow indefinitely as long as the feature runs. You can also trigger the Hammer Double Wild Reel feature, and win +4 extra spins when you land 3 scatters.
Crack the 5,000x max win, and the bonus round immediately ends. If your jurisdiction allows for it, you can buy the bonus round for 100x your stake. This Bonus Buy feature is not available for UK players however, but you will get between 10 and 22 free spins. You can then gamble for more if you got less than 22 spins, just like when the feature is triggered organically.
The 200 Spins Power of Thor Megaways Experience
After some initial base game wins, we decided to purchase the bonus round at 0:40 into the 6-minute highlights video.
The bonus round went on for quite a while, and we landed more than a couple of big wins. How much we got away with in total however, you will have to find out for yourself by hitting that play button.Review Summary
The snow-capped mountains of Norway makes for a stunning backdrop in this gritty viking title from Pragmatic Play, and overall it’s a visually pleasing effort. There is nothing too original to see here though, except perhaps for the way Thor’s hammer drills its way down the reels during the Hammer Wild feature. Still, the end result is a double set of wild reels, which is hardly something we haven’t seen before.
Nothing wrong with a palate cleansing baseline touch once in a while, but the potential is hard-capped at 5,000x your stake. Pragmatic has long been accused of exaggerating the max win, a critique they’ve recently taken to heart. Perhaps a bit too much so with this release, as Megaways titles usually come with at least twice the potential on offer here.
That being said, at least the win cap seems achievable, and the 96.55 % RTP is also a bit above average.Pros
- Random double wild reels feature
- Bonus round w/ unlimited win multiplier
- Bonus Buy option (not for UK players)
- Win up to 5,000x your stake
Cons
- Nice enough game, but not very original
