Hades Gigablox Review

Let’s face it. Sometimes everything literally goes to hell in a handbasket when you play online slots. That being said, perhaps the best way to turn your luck is to have the underworld as your starting point. If that’s the case, it probably helps to have Hades by your side also, fighting the demons and turning them into wilds for you. Yggdrasil is back with their second Gigablox mechanics game, and Hades Gigablox slot really delivers in spades compared to the already solid Gigablox debut.

This time it plays out on a 6x6 grid, and you can now also land up to 6x6 Gigablox even in the base game. Every spin feels fresh and unique because of this neat and innovative feature, and it certainly shines in this game. The theme will appeal more to western players than the first game perhaps did, and the audiovisual presentation is spectacular in this game too. Hades will comment as you play, and he might even tell a few longer jokes while you check out the paytable. The game has charm and charisma all the way, and you can win up to a whopping 11,129x your stake here.

This is a rock solid potential for a medium volatile game, and it’s almost 2x what the first game offers, even though the volatility is less brutal here. It might take around 400 spins to trigger the bonus round however, and the regular hit frequency is 20.5 %. The Gigablox will give you decent base game wins on a regular basis though, but you need to get lucky with the progressive multiplier in the bonus round to win really big here. This is just a solid production through and through, and we can see a lot of great games coming from this exciting mechanic down the line.

What are the bonus features?

With the Gigablox feature active on every single spin, you don’t really need all that many bonus features to be satisfied.

Hades Gigablox Slot Gameplay 8

Yggdrasil has provided just enough to keep the base game interesting, and the big highlight is, of course, the bonus round.

The Gigablox will land as mega-sized symbols from 2x2 to 6x6, and this means that the symbol and reel configuration is very unique on every spin. Not least since you can land more than one gigablox symbol per spin, and these can be of different sizes. The Gigablox breaks down into regular sized symbols when part of a winning combo.

Hades, your animated companion on the right-hand side of the reels, will sometimes jump into the symbols to fight the demon monsters. This is called the Wild Hunt feature, and every monster symbol he beats will turn wild. Of course, this goes for regular sized symbols as well as Gigablox, and the wilds will step in for all regular symbols to help you form winning combos.

Free spins in Hades Gigablox

You need at least 5 scatter symbols anywhere on the same spin to trigger the free spins bonus round. How many scatters you land will directly determine how many spins you get, and a Gigablox scatter will always break down into regular sized scatters. This means that a 4x4 scatter counts as 16 scatter symbols, which again provides you with 16 free spins.

During the bonus round, you will benefit from the Hades Wild Hunt feature on every spin. On the left-hand side of the reels is a multiplier bar, and it’s filled up with +1 point for every symbol Hades turns wild (again, Gigablox are broken down to count as regular symbols).

Filling the multiplier meter in turn increases the progressive multiplier (seen on the right-hand side of the reels). Here is an overview of how it works:

  • Level 1: You need to turn 10 symbols wild to get the 2x multiplier
  • Level 2: You need to turn 15 symbols wild to get the 3x multiplier
  • Level 3: You need to turn 20 symbols wild to get the 5x multiplier
  • Level 4: You need to turn 25 symbols wild to get the 10x multiplier

The multiplier does not reset during the feature, and you get 2 extra free spins every time you upgrade to a new multiplier level. You also get 1 extra spin for every scatter you land during the bonus round.

How to play

It might sound a bit complicated with the Gigablox feature, not least if you have not tried the first game with this mechanic. However, we can assure you that it’s quite easy to understand when you start playing. That’s exactly what we are going to prepare you for in this section, namely how to play Hades Gigablox slot and provide an overview of all the essential settings, and so forth.

The plus icon on the left-hand side opens up a set of menu icons for you, and the gear icon opens up the game settings. Here you can choose the spin speed seamlessly from “turtle” to “rabbit”, and you can also toggle on/off the intro video and/or splash screen.

If you get tired of the voice overs (you know, the “Oooooo” and “Yea, nice!”) you can turn that off here.

The sound effects and the music can be turned on/off separately, and you can choose to display the values in coins or valuta. Next, you can click the small “i” icon to open up the game’s paytable. You will first have to scroll through the illustrated description of the features, before you get to the symbol values.

Hades Gigablox

The paytable is dynamic, which means that the symbol values will reflect your chosen total stake. The red, horned demon is the most valuable symbol, and there are 4 demons of different color with a value range from 8x to 4x for 6 on a payline. All the royals pay 2x for 6 on a payline, and you win by landing at least 3 matching symbols from left to right on a payline.

You can adjust your bet level via the plus and minus icons below the reels, and the total stake between 10p and £100 will be seen in the “cash bet” box. Right next to the spin button you’ll find the autoplay button. Here you can set up between 10 and 1,000 autospins, or let the reels spin in the underworld for “all eternity” if you wish.

The 200 Spins Hades Gigablox Experience

Although it’s not in the video, our very first spin on Hades Gigablox gave us a win of 6.66x (true story!). It was hard to not see this as an omen of some kind, but we didn’t know whether it was good or bad. Either way, we could hardly wait to get started with our 200 spins test session, as the very design of this game is just oozing playability and fun.

We started out with a bunch of dead spins, but then good ole’ Hades came to the rescue. He leaped into the monster symbols and turned 4 of them wild, which was enough to give us a “big win” of 30.4x our stake. It kind of feels like you're playing a Megaways engine game, as the configurations keep changing for each spin, and it certainly helps keep things fresh in much the same way.

After a period of smaller wins and dead spins, we suddenly landed 5 scatter symbols. This gave us 5 free spins, and the new reel set was wheeled up from deep within the bowels of the underworld. It started out very good, as our first Wild Hunt gave us a 19x win and filled the multiplier meter up to 7/10. We got the 2x multiplier and a couple of extra spins on the second free spin, and things were now heating up in the Underworld.

After a few non-winning spins that still filled up the multiplier meter, we landed 2 Gigablox that Hades managed to turn wild. This gave us the 3x multiplier, and a “Super Mega Big Win” of 154.8x our stake. That was really the peak of our bonus round, as it all calmed down in the final few spins. We got away with a total win of 177.8x our stake, which was pretty decent and certainly gave us an appetite for more.

Review Summary

Yggdrasil’s second Gigablox game is certainly an epic production, and there is not a single element of this game that’s not thought through to the end. The dark humor of the animated Hades, and his gameplay commentary, might not be to everyone’s liking, but it’s still a very nice touch and a powerful demonstration of this developer's keen eye for details. The same goes for the visual presentation, which is just stunning in its level of intricacy.

The Gigablox mechanic still feels as fresh and innovative as in the first game, and perhaps even more so here. It really helps break up the regular base game grind, combined with the occasional Hades Wild Hunt feature. The bonus round comes as a natural climax, with Wild Hunts on each spin that increases the progressive multiplier. With medium volatility and a 11,129x potential, this is nothing short of a high-powered, broad-appeal masterpiece that should hit the community like a ton of eh Giga-bricks.

Pros

  • Gigablox mechanic with up to 6x6 symbols
  • Hades Wild Hunt turn monsters wild
  • Free spins with Wild Hunt and progressive multiplier
  • Medium volatility and 11,129x max win potential

Cons

  • Bonus round is triggered on average every 400 spins

Obviously, you should probably try Yggdrasil’s first Gigablox game if you enjoyed the game at hand. However, we have also taken the liberty to recommend a few other games to you here. These recommendations are based more on theme than the Gigablox mechanic, but you might find some mega symbols there too, if that’s what you want more of.

Lucky Neko Gigablox - is the Gigablox debut game from Yggdrasil, and it’s set in a japanese shop with a charming female voiceover. Quite the contrast to the game at hand, but you’ll benefit from Gigablox up to 4x4 in the base game here, as well as a bonus round with expanded reel set and Gigablox up to 6x6. The volatility is a bit higher in this game, and the potential is almost half of what Hades has to offer.

Hades River of Souls - is a nicely done underworld slot from Fantasma, and its focus is upon Styx, the river that marks the border between the land of the living and the dead. The river of soul wilds flows from above the reels, and this gives you a nice foresight of potential happenings in the game. Wins up to 5,058x your stake is possible via the progressive multiplier that does not reset in the bonus round, and this is a highly volatile game with cartoon-style visuals.

Haul of Hades - Super Spinner - comes with giant stacked symbols, including fully stacked versions of Hades, Zeus, Athena and Aphrodite. You will also benefit from a Super Spinner feature when you win 4x your stake, and this is played out on 4 identical reel sets. You can get up to 50 super spins, and stacked wilds on reel 3 will be copied over to the rest of the reel setups. This is a low/medium variance game from Greentube, and you can win up to a solid 5,000x your stake.
