Fish ‘Em Up Review

Snowborn Games has established themselves as an interesting Games Global partner to follow already, and their colorful and cartoonish style is charming as well. The same can be said about their very first fishing slot release simply called Fish ‘Em Up. It can be seen as an installment in their ongoing 1UP range, which started with Pile ‘Em Up followed by the Irish-themed Tippy Tavern. Fish ‘Em Up is more inspired by the Big Bass Bonanza range though, but it comes with some original contributions to the popular concept.

First of all, you can catch fish prizes also in the base game in Fish ‘Em Up, and the 1UP symbol increases the fish prize multiplier for your next catch. It can go up to x10 in the bonus round as well, where it never resets. The feature comes with extra spins at certain multiplier levels, and you also get a hold and win style Bonus with prizes up to 5,000x your stake. This is also the game’s max win, and Fish ‘Em Up is an enjoyable fish slot without being anything too revolutionary either.

Fish ‘Em Up Slot Features

The premium symbols pay between 13 and 15 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbol can land on any reel as well.

Wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, and it pays 100x your stake should you land 5 wilds on the same payline.

The cash Fish symbols come with prize values of 0.2 to 50 x your stake per symbol, but you also need the fisherman Collect symbol in view to collect the prizes. If the Collect symbol is present, it will collect all present fish prize symbols, and you win the sum total of the prizes.

The Catch Booster starts at x1, and it’s a multiplier that can go up to x10. You need a 1UP symbol in view to increase this multiplier, and it increases by +1 per 1UP symbol you land. The Catch Booster will boost your next fish prize collection win, and then it resets back to x1 again (at least during base game play).

You can land fishing boat scatters on reels 1, 3, and 5, and you need 3 in view to trigger the Bonus Round. You win 1.5x your stake up front as well, and this gives you 10 free spins.

The Catch Booster is carried over into the feature, and the 1UP symbol will upgrade it as in the base game. When you reach a Catch Booster multiplier of x4, x7, and x10, you also get +5 extra free spins each time. The multiplier never resets during the feature, and non-UK players can purchase the bonus round for 70x the stake.

If you land a fish symbol with an overlay shell symbol attached, the Bonus Feature triggers. This gives you 3 bonus spins on an empty grid, and the spin tally resets each time you land either a fish or prize symbol in view. You can win the Mini, Midi, Maxi, or Mega prizes of 30x, 100x, 500x, or 5,000x your stake, respectively, and the fish prizes pay up to 50x. The Maxi prize is also collected if you fill the grid with symbols, but only the fish symbols are sticky.

The 200 Spins Fish ‘Em Up Slot Experience

You get to see a few catches in the base game, before we purchase and trigger the bonus round at 0:43 into the 2:45-minute highlights video. The feature plays out for the remainder of the video, and you can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

The 1Up series, if we can call it that, from Snowborn Games has seen pretty decent success, and the concept goes well together with the fish prize system. Unlike the Big Bass Bonanza series, which Fish ‘Em Up is clearly inspired by, you get the possibility to increase the fish prize collection multiplier also in the base game.

This means that not landing the Collector symbol all that often can be a good thing, and it makes the base game more interesting for sure.

The fishing theme is cozy and well-made, and it fits like a glove with Snowborn’s characteristic cartoon style visuals. The bonus round is very similar to what you get in the Big Bass series though, and larger payouts can come since the multiplier never resets. The hold and win style Bonus is another addition that you don’t see too often in this genre, and it can land you prizes up to 5,000x your stake (which is also the game’s max win). Overall, Fish ‘Em Up is an enjoyable and well-balanced release, and it can probably do pretty well in this competitive genre.
